Tobogganing in Ratschings – timeless fun for the whole family

Sledging is a classic winter favourite, here in the Alps. Once an irreplaceable means of transport for carrying wood and hay to remote areas and high-altitude pastures, sledges and toboggans are nowadays used mainly for sports and leisure. The holiday area in and around Ratschings offers plenty of natural toboggan runs where young and old can race each other downhill for a spot of good old-fashioned fun.

At 5 km long, the Ratschings toboggan run is the longest in the holiday area. It starts by the lift mountain station, at an altitude of 1,850 m, and descends all the way to the valley.

This is Italy’s longest snow-guaranteed toboggan run, extending over 10 km from Mt Rosskopf to the town of Sterzing. Every Tuesday and Saturday, the run is open and floodlit until midnight – a real treat!

This 1.9 km long toboggan run starts by the sunny Freundalm hut, where you can enjoy a good snack before hiring a toboggan and racing downhill.

The Stadlalm toboggan run is located in the picturesque upper section of the Ridnauntal valley. After an easy 40-minute ascent from the car park of the Ridnaun Schneeberg Mining Museum, the Stadlalm hut is a great place for catching a breather before the descent. You can hire your toboggan directly there, and the 1.5 km descent is pure tobogganing fun!

The Waldeben toboggan run is located in the Jaufental valley, with its starting point by Hotel Rainer in Mittertal. It takes about one hour’s walk to get there. At 1.4 km long, the run offers fun for everyone, including at night, as it’s illuminated!
