This is a rare natural spectacle that you don’t want to miss. The Gilfenklamm gorge, with its Alpine stream carving through white marble cliffs and forming a thundering waterfall (the drop is approx. 175 metres), is located at the entrance to the Ratschingstal valley. It can be explored via a secure, family-friendly walkway that takes about 1 – 1.5 hours to complete (45–60 minutes on your way up the gorge and 40 minutes down).

The Schneeberg Mining Museum, Ridnaun

Whisk yourself off to the very end of the Ridnauntal valley for an exciting guided tour through a medieval ore mine now converted into a museum – a great experience for young and old. The mine and its tunnels provide a wealth of information about the historical development of the Schneeberg site as well as general information and fun facts about mining, minerals and ore processing.

The South Tyrolean Fishing and Hunting Museum is housed at Wolfsthurn Castle, within sight of B&B Almarett. The majestic walls of this baroque castle are also home to numerous paintings and dioramas, magnificent Gobelins tapestries and the original furnishing of Baron Sternbach.

A 45-minute walk through nearly unspoilt nature will take you from Maiern to the Ridnauntal valley head, where a spectacular natural monument awaits: the Burhardklamm gorge. A great opportunity to take in the majestic Stubai Alps at their best.

St. Magdalena miners’ chapel

Tucked away in an idyllic landscape, the St. Magdalena miners’ chapel is a historical gem sitting beautifully enthroned on Magdalenen hill, in the heart of the Ridnauntal valley. It’s a wonderful example of late Gothic architecture, built in 1480 by the Schneeberg miners.
