Peace and serenity in the Jaufental valley
Also knows as Val Giovo in Italian, the Jaufental valley is a picturesque side valley of the Ridnauntal valley, in South Tyrol. It is located in the 3-valley municipality of Ratschings, near Sterzing, and extends 35 kilometres westwards all the way to the Austrian border.
The Jaufental valley starts near the locality of Stange, in Ratschings, and branches off to the southwest in the locality of Gasteig leading up towards the Jaufenjoch pass. Taking the road beyond Gasteig, you quickly reach the main locality of Mittertal and the hamlets of St. Anton, Obertal and Schluppes.
Sporting activities in every season
Mountain biking: the Jaufen Valley is full of little-travelled routes for mountain biking. Extreme mountain bikers can sink their teeth into a real highlight: crossing the Jaufen pass.
Hiking & mountaineering: the Jaufental valley is a great destination for walkers, hikers, mountaineers and outdoor lovers in general, with exceptional itineraries in close contact with nature. Relatively secluded and sparsely populated, the area is an oasis of rest and recreation even in the peak tourist season.
Winter sports: in winter, the valley turns into a sensational fairy-tale snowscape. Immerse yourself in the wintry idyll by taking leisurely walks or exciting snowshoe hikes. The nearby Ratschings-Jaufen ski area and the picture-postcard cross-country ski trails in the Ridnauntal valley offer wonderful options for all winter sports fans.
